With the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II coming closer and closer, I figured it was time to revisit my shots after the astounding popularity of the Harry Potter Sorting Shots, Butterbeer and Pumpkin Juice. So finally here are the latest rounds of drinks inspired by the series!
The Rubeus Hagrid
“Technically, I’m not allowed to do magic…”
—Rubeus Hagrid
Ingredients
3 fingers of Scotch or whiskey
A drop of pink food dye
A pink umbrella for garnish
Pour three fingers worth of scotch (either neat on on the rocks) into an old fashioned glass. Add a drop of dye to make it pink and garnish with with a pink umbrella.
Fire Whiskey
Ingredients
1 ounce of whiskey (1.5 cL)
1/2 ounce of cinnamon schnapps
OR
1.5 ounce of Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey
Combine the whiskey and cinnamon schnapps in a shot glass and stir before serving.
If you want to make your own Fire Whiskey, it’s going to take a while since it will need to seep. In a Mason jar (4 ounce is best), add in a half dozen cinnamon sticks, a tablespoon of sugar and fill it with whiskey. Seal the jar and leave it in a cool, dark place for a few weeks at least. The longer you wait, the stronger the cinnamon taste will be.
The Golden Snitch
“Get the Snitch or die trying.”
—Oliver Wood
Ingredients
3 ounces of freshly squeezed orange juice
1 ounce of gold tequila
A splash of Red Bull
Combine the ingredients in a shaker and pour on the rocks in an old fashioned glass.
The Dark Mark
“…You-Know-Who and his followers sent the Dark Mark into the air whenever they killed. The terror it inspired…you have no idea, you’re too young. Just picture coming home and finding the Dark Mark hovering over your house, and knowing what you’re about to find inside… Everyone’s worst fear…the very worst.”
—Arthur Weasley
Ingredients
1 ounce black rum (1.5 cL)
1 ounce fresh lime juice (1.5 cL)
1/2 ounce Southern Comfort (0.75 cL)
1/2 ounce of simple syrup (0.75 cL)
1 Skull-shaped ice cube
Twist of lime zest for garnish
Combine the rum, lime, simple syrup and Southern Comfort together in a chilled shaker and pour into a small glass. If feeling adventurous, prepare the ice cubes in advance with the zest of lime frozen into them like the snake coming out of the skulls mouth.
To make a twist, cut the ends off a lime and then cut it into 1/4 inch wheels. Using a sharp knife, cut the wheel in half but leave ONE side of a peel intact. Then cut out the remaining pith and fruit. Roll the zest and it should keep its shape.
Skull shaped ice cube trays are easy to find during Halloween in stores, and here year around.
